This Introduction to Art Psychotherapy course will be of interest and benefit to all those interested in the arts and those working in health, social care and education.

Completion of the course will provide students, wishing to progress to further training, with a good general introduction to art psychotherapy.

What will I learn on the course?

Art Psychotherapy is an established profession regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. Treatment settings include psychiatry; adult and child psychotherapy, physical and learning disability services, special and mainstream education, services for the elderly and palliative care.

Art Psychotherapy is generally practiced in the public sector with clients who are socially and economically disadvantaged. It is an intervention which addresses psychological distress and is concerned with the ways in which psychotherapeutic art making can contribute to beneficial psychological change.

The Introduction to Art Psychotherapy Short Course will introduce students to the practice of art psychotherapy. The course will build awareness of the history and 性用社ment of art psychotherapy and introduce students to some of the key theories informing current practice. Workshops will offer students the opportunity to work experientially and share experiences whilst exploring key themes pertinent to art psychotherapy practice.

Certificate of attendance.

NB Please note that this is a 苍辞苍-辩耻补濒颈蹿测颈苍驳听course and聽does not allow persons to practice as an "Art Therapist" or "Art Psychotherapist" or use these legally protected titles. How will I be taught?

How is the course delivered?

The course is delivered over four weekends at the 性用社 Campus, Musselburgh. All weekends run 10.00am - 4.30pm.

Teaching, learning and assessment

You will learn through lectures, seminars and participation in an art-based interpersonal learning group.

Reading materials (articles and reading lists) will be provided.

Workshops will offer students the opportunity to work experientially and share experiences whilst exploring key themes pertinent to art psychotherapy practice.

All art materials and arts equipment will be provided for the workshops.

Students are encouraged to keep a reflective journal throughout the duration of the course with the aim of consolidating their learning throughout the course.
